Nichelle D. TrambleBiography

Nichelle D. Tramble is the author of the critically acclaimed debut novel
The Dying Ground
, a launch title for Random House's Strivers Row imprint. Her articles, reviews and short stories have appeared in Washington Post Book World, Modern Short Story, Santa Clara Review, Fade-In Magazine, Dysonna, and the Oakland Post.

Tramble, a native of northern California, grew up in the small island community of Alameda, and drew on the rich history of the island, and the San Francisco Bay Area, to write The Dying Ground and the forthcoming sequel, The Last King.

Her first novel was shortlisted for the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation's Legacy Award, and garnered unanimous praise from such places as the Boston Globe, New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle. The novel was also named a Best Book of 2001 by both the Chicago Tribune and the San Francisco Chronicle, and a Top Ten Reviewers Pick by the Boston Phoenix.

Previous to publication of her novel, Tramble worked as Story Editor at a independent film company where she read and evaluated screenplays and book manuscripts. As a Literary Assistant at the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills, she worked with writers, directors and playwrights. As a freelance reader she worked for such companies as Miramax, Columbia, William Morris, and Sony.

A recepient of Writer-in-Residence Fellowships from both the Edward J. Albee Foundation in Montauk, New York and the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont, Wyoming, Tramble currently resides in southern California where she's at work on a third Maceo Redfield novel. She also a member of the Authors Guild, PEN, and Associated Writing Program.
